Find your base note family
Musk, vanilla, amber, woods, citrus, florals. Smell blotters at a counter and notice which family you keep returning to. That's your base.
Test on skin, not paper
Spray one wrist and walk away for four hours. Fragrance changes completely on your chemistry between the top and dry-down.
