Five rules taped to the mirror

Buy the neutral first
Black, cognac, bone. Colour and prints are the third purchase, never the first — a neutral bag gets worn ten times more.

Leather over logo
Smooth or saffiano calfskin ages beautifully. Coated canvas with a big monogram dates fastest and resells worst.
- 03
Heel height you can actually walk in
65–75mm looks as leggy as 100mm in photos and lets you stay out. Save the higher heel for seated events.

Check the hardware
Zips, feet and chain links are what fail. Solid metal hardware and protective base studs mean the bag lasts a decade.
- 05
One in, one out
When a new bag arrives, something leaves. A small closet of good things beats a full closet of almost-right ones.
